Data & AI

Effective Date: September 2026

Preppo AI or Preppo is operated by Creati Pty Ltd ACN 697 537 947, trading as Preppo AI (“Preppo”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

1. Our approach

Preppo uses artificial intelligence to help students learn.

We believe AI designed for children should be built differently from a general-purpose AI assistant. A student should be able to get help with algebra, English comprehension, understand a science concept or prepare for a test without having to give up their privacy.

Our approach is guided by five principles:

  • Learning first. We use AI to support learning, not replace thinking.
  • Children's interests first. When making decisions about student data and AI, we aim to put the privacy, safety and best interests of children first.
  • Collect what we need. We aim to collect and use only the information reasonably needed to provide, personalise, protect and improve Preppo.
  • Be transparent. Parents and students should be able to understand what information Preppo uses and why.
  • Humans still matter. AI can be helpful, but it is not a parent, teacher, tutor, counsellor or trusted adult.

2. How Preppo uses AI

Preppo uses artificial intelligence to provide personalised educational support.

Depending on the feature being used, AI may help Preppo:

  • explain educational concepts;
  • answer questions about schoolwork;
  • provide hints and guided questions;
  • create practice questions and learning activities;
  • give feedback on a student's answers;
  • identify areas where a student may need more practice;
  • adapt explanations to a student's year level and learning needs;
  • understand images of worksheets, textbook questions or other learning material submitted by a student;
  • process voice questions where that feature is available; and
  • help maintain continuity between learning sessions where personalised memory is enabled.

Preppo's AI can make mistakes. Students should not assume that every AI generated response is correct and should check important information with their teacher, tutor, parent, guardian or another reliable source.

3. AI should help students think, not think for them

Preppo is designed as a learning tool rather than an answer-generating service.

Where appropriate, Preppo may use questions, hints, explanations and step by step guidance instead of immediately providing a final answer.

This approach is intended to help students understand concepts, develop problem-solving skills and become more independent learners.

Preppo should not be used to misrepresent AI generated work as a student's own where doing so would breach school rules or assessment requirements.

4. Information the AI may use

To provide personalised tutoring, Preppo may process information such as:

  • a student's profile name;
  • age or school year;
  • subjects and topics being studied;
  • learning goals;
  • areas of strength or difficulty;
  • learning preferences;
  • questions and messages sent to Preppo;
  • answers provided by the student;
  • previous learning activity;
  • relevant conversation history;
  • homework, worksheets, images or other material submitted to Preppo;
  • voice questions or audio submitted through supported features; and
  • information derived from learning sessions that helps personalise future tutoring.

Preppo does not need information such as a student's home address, passwords, personal phone number or other unrelated sensitive information in order to provide tutoring. Students are encouraged not to provide unnecessary personal information when using Preppo.

5. Personalised learning and memory

Preppo may use information from a student's learning activity to personalise their experience.

For example, Preppo may learn that a student:

  • is in a particular school year
  • is working on fractions or algebra
  • has difficulty with a particular concept
  • prefers explanations to be broken into smaller steps
  • has already mastered a topic
  • or would benefit from additional practice in an area.

We refer to this as a student's learning profile.

The purpose of a learning profile is to make Preppo's tutoring more relevant and useful. It is not intended to build an advertising profile of the student.

6. Information sent to AI providers

Preppo does not build every artificial intelligence model itself.

We may use specialist AI providers to process information and generate tutoring responses.

When a student interacts with an AI-powered feature, we aim to send only the information reasonably necessary for that feature to work. Depending on the request, this may include:

  • the student's question;
  • relevant parts of the current conversation;
  • relevant learning-profile information;
  • educational material the student has submitted;
  • an image or voice message submitted for processing; and
  • instructions from Preppo that help the AI provide an appropriate educational response.

We do not intentionally provide an AI provider with unnecessary personal information about a student.

The AI providers we use may change as technology develops. Our Privacy Policy provides further information about the categories of service providers that process information on our behalf.

7. Training AI models with student data

Children and parents deserve a clear answer about whether their information is used to train artificial intelligence.

Preppo does not permit its third-party AI providers to use student conversations or personal information submitted through Preppo to train their general-purpose AI models.

Where we use information to test, evaluate or improve Preppo, we aim to minimise the personal information involved and use de-identified or aggregated information where reasonably possible.

8. We don't sell student data

Preppo does not sell students' personal information or use students' personal information for targeted or behavioural advertising.

A student's learning activity should be used to support their education and the operation and safety of Preppo not to create an advertising profile.

9. Parent/s, Guardians, tutors and teachers

Preppo is designed to support families, not separate children from their parents or guardians.

The parent, guardian, tutor or teacher managing a student's Preppo profile may be able to access information relating to that student's learning.

Depending on the features available on their plan, this may include:

  • subjects and topics studied
  • learning progress
  • session history
  • areas of strength or difficulty
  • learning summaries
  • conversation history.

Students should understand that activity on Preppo may therefore be visible to the parent, guardian tutor or teacher responsible for their profile.

10. AI safety

General-purpose AI can respond to an enormous range of subjects. Preppo is intentionally designed around education.

We use technical and operational safeguards intended to keep interactions appropriate for students and focused on learning.

These may include:

  • instructions that guide the AI towards educational conversations
  • content-safety systems
  • age-aware or context-aware safeguards
  • restrictions on certain categories of content
  • monitoring for attempts to misuse the service
  • and redirecting inappropriate or unsuitable conversations back towards learning or appropriate real-world support.

No AI safety system is perfect.

Preppo cannot guarantee that an AI system will never produce an incorrect, inappropriate or unexpected response. We continually aim to improve our safeguards as technology, risks and recognised good practices evolve.

11. Preppo is not a replacement for a trusted adult

Preppo is an educational AI service.

It is not a human being and should not replace a parent/s, guardian, tutor, teacher, counsellor, doctor or other qualified professional.

Students should not rely on Preppo for emergency assistance, medical advice, mental-health support or other serious personal matters.

Where appropriate, Preppo may encourage a student to speak with a parent, guardian, tutor, teacher or another trusted adult.

12. Human access to conversations

A limited number of authorised Preppo personnel may access student information where reasonably necessary to provide support, investigate safety or security issues, investigate reported content, maintain the service or evaluate and improve Preppo.

Access is limited to authorised purposes and subject to appropriate safeguards.

13. Third-party technology providers

Preppo uses trusted technology providers to help operate the service. These may include providers of:

  • artificial intelligence models
  • cloud infrastructure and databases
  • Authentication
  • Security
  • email communications
  • Analytics
  • voice or speech processing
  • and communication services.

These providers may process information on Preppo's behalf.

We assess providers based on factors including their security practices, privacy commitments, data-use terms and suitability for the services they provide.

More information about third-party processing and overseas disclosures is available in our Privacy Policy.

14. Images and voice

Students may be able to submit images, such as a photograph of a worksheet or textbook question, and use voice features.

Images and audio may contain personal information beyond the question the student intends to ask.

Students should avoid including unnecessary personal information, other people's personal information or identifying material in images and voice messages.

Where an image or audio recording is sent to a third-party provider for processing, that information is subject to the safeguards and contractual arrangements Preppo has established with that provider.

15. WhatsApp and other third-party services

Where Preppo can be accessed through a third-party service such as WhatsApp, information may also be processed by the operator of that service.

The third-party service has its own privacy practices and terms that are separate from Preppo's.

Parent/s and guardians should consider those practices before choosing to allow a student to access Preppo through a third-party service.

16. How long we keep AI and learning data

We aim not to keep personal information for longer than we reasonably need it.

Different information may be retained for different periods depending on its purpose. This may include:

  • conversation history;
  • learning-profile information;
  • account information;
  • security and technical logs;
  • support records; and backups.

When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it, subject to legal, security and legitimate operational requirements.

17. Accessing, correcting and deleting information

Parent/s, guardians and, where appropriate, students can contact Preppo to ask about personal information we hold and request access, correction or deletion.

Requests can be made to:

privacy@preppo.ai

There may be circumstances where we are legally required or permitted to retain certain information. Where appropriate, we will explain this when responding to a request.

18. How we develop new AI features

Before introducing significant AI features involving student information, we aim to consider:

  • Purpose: Why does this feature need student information?
  • Necessity: Can we provide the feature using less information?
  • Child safety: Could the feature create new risks for children?
  • Privacy: What information is collected, shared or inferred?
  • Providers: Which third parties will receive information?
  • Retention: How long does the information need to exist?
  • Transparency: Can we clearly explain the feature to a student and their parent/s?
  • Control: What meaningful choices should students or parent/s have?

Where we identify significant risks, we aim to address those risks before releasing the feature.

19. Our commitments

As Preppo develops, our goal is to maintain these commitments:

Education over engagement.

We design Preppo to help students learn, not simply to maximise the amount of time they spend chatting with AI.

Privacy over unnecessary data collection.

We don't want information simply because we can collect it.

Guidance over answers.

AI should help students develop their own understanding.

Safety by design.

Safety should be considered when features are designed, not added only after problems occur.

Transparency over complexity.

Parents and students should be able to understand what Preppo does with their information.

People over AI.

There are situations where a parent/s, tutor, teacher or other trusted person is more appropriate than an AI system.

20. How this policy relates to our Privacy Policy

This Data & AI Policy explains Preppo's approach to artificial intelligence and student data in accessible language.

21. Changes to this policy

AI technology and the laws and standards governing it are evolving.

We may update this policy as Preppo develops, our technology changes or legal requirements change.

Where a change materially affects how we handle children's personal information, we will take appropriate steps to notify affected parents, carers or users and obtain consent where required.
